The Ejido Community Program in Mexico from The ECOLIFE Foundation has been selected by The Walt Disney Company as a recipient of funding through Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green.

The Ejido Community Program in Mexico is among the five programs that have been chosen for their efforts in reducing the impact of climate change.

Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green helps kids help the planet. Encourage the kids in your life to join and pledge to take simple everyday actions that help the planet at Disney.com/projectgreen.

Beginning June 1, when kids earn votes by participating in Disney’s Friends for Change “projects”, they’ll be able to help Disney decide how the first installment of its $1 million in donations will be distributed among the five “climate” programs. The Ejido Community Program in Mexico will receive a portion of this installment. The amount depends on the percentage of votes earned – first place gets $100,000, so tell the kids in your life to get involved and vote today!

About Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green

Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green is a multiplatform environmental initiative on Disney Channel, Disney XD, Radio Disney and Disney.com that invites young people to join together to help the planet across four key areas: climate, water, waste and habitats. Kids can learn practical ways to help, track their collective impact and have the opportunity to vote on how $1 million in donations from Disney will be divided and invested in various environmental causes over the course of a year. Kids can pledge to join online at www.Disney.com/projectgreen where they’ll commit to take simple everyday actions, such as turning off the lights and switching to reusable water bottles, and find out more about why these actions matter.

Dona Rosa’s Stoves

Dona Rosa has a concession in a Puesto – a group of shops, at the entrance to the Sierra Chincua butterfly sanctuary.  She had a stove that was vandalized – and really wants a new one.  We have promised a new stove to each of the 18 food shops in the Puesto – as close as they are to the sanctuary, the wood they are using directly impacts the butterflies.

Walking4Water (W4W) is an awareness and conservation campaign that addresses two critical water issues: 1) globally, over 1 billion people lack access to clean water and 2) locally, San Diego imports 85% of its water from endangered water sources. A portion of your sponsorship will be tax-deductible, as well as provide a better quality of life and help to sustain water for families in Africa, Mexico and Southern California in 2010.

On October 4, 2009 at Mission Bay Park, an estimated 500 people will unite to share the importance of protecting our precious water resources. The course will be a 5 km walk and will consist of water challenges along the route that represent global and local water issues and solutions. The course will end at a Water Education Expo where water conservation organizations will share their sustainable water solutions and products. Live music and eco-friendly food and drinks promise to create a lively atmosphere for the Expo.

"Conservation requires more than saving endangered habitats and species — it requires improving human lives.

The challenge ahead of us is to save a future for ourselves, and for our children."
