Our annual event was an unbelievable success for ECOLIFE FOUNDATION.
We had incredible corporate support led by the Shultz Steel Company and Solar Monkey Inc. A fabulous fundraising committee led by Susan Santilena and carried out by a great team, including: Bill and Robin Ross, Mary Lieras, Debbie Schultz, Laurie Smith and Sunni Black. Tables of ten were hosted by Steve and Cathi Shultz, Matt and Carol McCollough, Chuck and Judy Wheatley, Susan Santilena and Gabriel Robles, George and Eileen Haligowski, and David and Margaret Hudson (with TWO tables) — thank you all for your wonderful support and for bringing your friends.
Enough funds were raised to continue our aggressive watershed education and conservation program in San Diego as well as to bring a sustainable supply of clean drinking water to West Gate School in the Samburu region of Kenya.
In San Diego we will complete and provide a complete lesson plan on water and water conservation to elementary schools. The content has been developed in collaboration with the San Diego County Office of Education and will contain material for lesson plans, podcasts and evaluation. The material helps teachers in meeting basic standards established for the State of California. We are working hard at making the material fun, interesting and relevant. All of this material will be made available for download through our website.
West Gate School in Kenya is in need of safe housing for young girls going to school, as well as a source of water that does not require going into the wildlife reserve — past dangerous animals — to the Oasu-Nyiro River to fetch contaminated water. When our work is completed the students will have safe and secure housing, built sustainably with local materials, and the roofs of the building will serve as catchments for rainwater collection. With ample storage and treatment, the kids will be assured of clean drinking water throughout the year. Our work in Kenya will be filmed for television by Exotic Visuals.
